Poultry keepers in England can now access funded veterinary biosecurity reviews through the Animal Health and Welfare Pathway, aimed at helping farms reduce the risk of avian influenza.
The new Poultry Biosecurity Review provides a funded on-farm vet visit, offering practical, site-specific advice tailored to individual businesses. Eligible producers can claim £430 per review to help cover the cost.
Announcing the scheme, a Defra spokesperson said: “We’ve heard from the poultry sector that tailored, practical advice is more useful than general guidance when it comes to biosecurity. Risks vary between farms.
“That’s why we’re introducing funded Poultry Biosecurity Reviews as part of the Animal Health and Welfare Pathway.”
During the visit, vets will assess biosecurity risks, identify areas for improvement and provide a written report with recommendations. Producers can choose their own vet and arrange visits at a convenient time.
The scheme is open to eligible poultry businesses in England meeting minimum flock size requirements. Funded visits must be completed by 31 December 2028, with claims submitted by 31 March 2029.
