Applications are now open for the 2027 Nuffield Farming Scholarship, with poultry professionals being encouraged to apply for the programme aimed at developing future leaders across the food and farming sector.
Open to people aged 25 to 45 working in or influencing food, farming, horticulture and rural industries, the scholarship gives recipients the opportunity to travel internationally and research a topic of their choice before bringing their findings back to UK agriculture. Around 25 scholarships are awarded each year, with a bursary provided to fund travel and study.
Previous poultry scholars have explored topics including biosecurity, sustainable production, global supply chain resilience and industry innovation.
Sylwia Sobolewska, a 2023 Nuffield Farming Scholar, said the experience had broadened her industry knowledge and influenced her career.
“Visiting farms, feed mills and agricultural businesses throughout my Nuffield journey opened my mind to new ideas and continues to have a significant impact on my work today,” she said. “For me, the Nuffield journey is a lifelong experience.”
Current 2026 Scholar John Shiels said the scholarship had provided valuable insight into the wider industry while helping him build connections across the sector.
“The experience has broadened my perspective, challenged my thinking and helped me better understand the role I can play in driving positive impact,” he said.
There is no requirement for academic qualifications, and the scholarship is open to applicants from advisory, supply chain and associated roles, as well as farming businesses.
