Pest control company, BASF, has relaunched its rodent control training programme for rural users of rodenticide in partnership with industry instructor, Oliver Madge.
The first presentations, which focused on reasons to control rodents from a hygiene and risk management perspective, as well as rodenticide stewardship for on-farm rodent control, took place on 25 and 26 October and welcomed 20 attendees from Tarff Valley in Dumfries.
Following this session, the full CRRU (Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use) approved certificated “Safe use of rodenticide” course will now be rolled out across the country, with the next training taking due to take place in Devon on 16 November, followed by sessions in Hampshire on the 18th November.
The reintroduction of the course comes after BASF’s recent study into agricultural pest control found that 72% of farmers agreed that they could do more to improve the control of rodents on their farm.
The course aims to increase good stewardship and best practice of pest management, while offering vital CPD points.
Oliver Madge is the former Chief Executive Officer for the British Pest Control Association (BPCA). Available to all farmers, the course covers everything from preventing infestations and identifying problem areas around the farm, to baiting best practice and how to take control of rodents quickly and cost effectively. Following the training, participants will take a CRRU-recognised BASIS exam, which is the ongoing requirement for those looking to purchase larger quantities of rodenticides.
