Farmers are being urged by the NFU to make sure they respond promptly to the contents of the new draft corporate strategy, issued last week by the Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB).
“The consultation period is very short,” said the NFU, encouraging its members to deliver their “early feedback” to the union by December 16, 2016.
“The consultation process has been underway for almost a year and the proposed strategies are in response to challenges and opportunities already identified by levy payers. The six sector boards have examined their own and the organisation’s priorities and identified where they feel that AHDB is best placed to have impact on the industry.
“More recently, Brexit has accelerated the need to look harder at some of the challenges and opportunities that AHDB is there to help our industry address.”
Pointing out that AHDB exists to help farmers, growers and the industry succeed in a rapidly changing world, the union said it will publish its own “draft response” to the consultation on the NFU website ahead of the final consultation date.
