Boparan Private Office is investing £100m in its British turkey business, upgrading Bernard Matthews’ facilities and developing new products to grow demand beyond the Christmas season.
The investment will focus on the company’s main site at Halesworth, Suffolk, which processes about 100,000 turkeys a week. Improvements will include new processing and refrigeration equipment, a new lairage, building upgrades and the introduction of robotics and digital technology.
The investment will also support new product development, including Gochujang Turkey Strips and Moroccan Style Turkey Koftas, as the business seeks to expand its range of year-round, high-protein products.
Boparan said it sees opportunities to grow turkey consumption as demand for healthier protein increases, drawing on expertise from German turkey producer Heidemark Group, acquired in February.
The announcement follows plans to close Bernard Matthews’ factory in Derby by the end of 2026, as previously announced by Boparan Private Office.
Boparan founder and president Ranjit Singh said the investment would create new opportunities for British turkey farmers and help establish turkey as an everyday protein rather than a seasonal product.
