Cargill Animal Nutrition UK is hosting a series of layer poultry workshops in July to present new developments and practical management techniques that target improved layer persistency and egg production. These will take place in Norwich, Penrith and Shrewsbury, in conjunction with Slate Hall Veterinary Services and layer breeder company Lohmann GB.
“The egg industry is increasingly focused on laying persistency and it’s important that this is achieved efficiently and that layer health and welfare is maintained,” said Cargill poultry technology specialist Luke Barnard.
Slate Hall Veterinary services’ Andrew Walker will discuss vaccination schemes for the longer living layer, and John Hodgkinson from Lohmann GB will share the breeder’s perspective on longer living layers and the production of commercial progeny that fulfil this role.
Cargill’s presentation will discuss the importance of monitoring and managing body condition for good laying persistency and showcasing Cargill’s Reveal Layers service; a non-invasive tool using near-infra-red (NIR) technology to enable producers to assess the body condition of their flocks.
Workshops are open to all those involved in layer production. They take place from 3pm to 7pm and include supper. To book email matthew_pickles@cargill.com
