New red mite treatment launched by Biolink

A new red mite treatment has been launched by Biolink. Mefisto Shock is the first poultry insecticide to contain Deltamethrin, according to Biolink, which is a tough and effective deterrent against red mite. Uniquely, it also contains a disinfectant that can shave hours off the cleaning and purifying process of hen and poultry houses.

Mefisto Shock comes as a concentrated formula boosting its time saving features and significantly reducing water usage and costs.

Free from Carcinogenic, Mutagenic or Reprotoxins (CMR) Mefisto Shock is also biodegradable, non corrosive and stable for up to two years.

Mefisto Shock has been approved for use against flies and dark beetle, but it is the results against red mite that are the most encouraging.

Derek Gray is sales director for Biolink.  “Red mite can cause havoc in poultry sheds leaving farmers out of pocket and with a major outbreak.  Yet the existing solutions were time consuming and costly.

“We knew the different ingredients that would work but it was difficult to get them in a formulation that would remain stable.   Deltamithrin is rarely used in poultry because it usually comes as a powder adding another layer of complexity and work for farmers.  By putting it into a liquid solution and combining it with a disinfectant Mefisto Shock makes life easier for poultry farmers,” he said.

“We’ve demonstrated that we can improve profitability of a 1,000 m squared shed by 28 per cent.”

Howard Kirkby works for Biolink and is a former poultry farmer so understands their challenges.  “The beauty of Mefisto Shock for many of my farmers is that it is concentrated.  You use one litre of Mefisto to two of water.  One recent shed we treated using five litres of Mefisto Shock took just 15 minutes to fog.

“When they add that to the cost benefits it is a win, win,” he added.

Phill Crawley runs Sunrise Eggs.  He said: “This is the first time that we have used Mefisto Shock and so far we are getting better results from the birds so we will be using it again.”
