Chippindale Foods, an egg packer, has launched and is part-funding an avian influenza (AI) benefit arrangement for its egg producers to help support the industry.
In conjunction with NFU Mutual, the new benefit arrangement launched in September of this year, not only covers egg producers for 180 days of business interruption but it also includes support towards secondary cleaning and disinfection costs. This means that cover extends to any laying hens that become infected with the disease.
Chippindale Foods will cover 50% of the cost to give its farmers peace of mind.
Harriet Hirst, senior sourcing & sales manager for eggs at Chippindale Foods, said: “As we head into another AI season, we know all too well how devastating outbreaks can be for our industry. We are therefore proud to be supporting our producers with part funding and access to the benefit arrangement. By sharing the responsibility, together we are building resilience and helping to safeguard the livelihoods of our producers and the continuity of supply, whilst ensuring the end-to-end long term sustainability of our industry.”
Adam Williams, animal disease portfolio manager at NFU Mutual, said: “We remain committed to supporting our customers and the industry with the best outcomes available. We are therefore delighted to have been able to support Chippindales with the development of their benefit arrangement for their producers.”
Gary Ford, BFREPA head of strategy and producer engagement, said: “This kind of proactive support provides producers with renewed confidence at a time when uncertainty remains high.’’
