Avara Foods has submitted strengthened environmental targets to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), raising its ambition across all areas of its carbon footprint. The new goals incorporate Forestry, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) reporting, aiming for deeper reductions than the company’s original 2021 commitments.
By 2030, Avara is pledging a 43% cut in emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3. Its broader net-zero goal targets a 90% reduction in energy and industry emissions and a 72% drop in FLAG-related emissions by 2040. These updated targets build on strong progress since Avara first measured its full carbon footprint in 2019 and reflect its drive for continual improvement.
Chris Hall, chief executive, described the move as “another positive step forward,” highlighting the company’s data-driven approach and consistent outperformance on previous goals. Around 80% of Avara’s footprint will now be calculated using FLAG, factoring land use from inputs like animal feed.
Head of sustainability Emily Don said the company’s robust data and focus on decarbonisation have made it an industry leader. These targets are part of Avara’s wider ‘For Good’ agenda, which also includes changes like reducing farm stocking densities.
