EU egg prices have surged during the autumn and have now broken above the 290 eurocents a kg mark, after several months of gains.
Prices have lifted by 2.6% in the past month alone to average 293.44 eurocents a kg for the week ending 26 November, 21% above the same period last year.
Egg prices in the US have also been recovering, although they remain below the peak seen at the start of the year.
Prices in the US recently returned above the EU price and are currently the equivalent to 312.6 eurocents a kg.
Meanwhile, egg prices in Brazil and India remain at a significant discount at roughly 121 and 100 eurocents a kg respectively.
The EU had 391m laying hens in 2024, according to the EU commission, producing in excess of 6.6 million tonnes of eggs.
EU placings of laying hens in 2025, started off the year relatively low and behind year earlier levels, but placings have increased in recent months with September alone approaching 15m birds.
EU egg exports were almost 3% higher during the first seven months of 2025, with the UK market accounting for more than 40% of this.
Broilers
EU broiler prices were tracking at about 300 eurocents a kg throughout September and October, however, slipped back in November.
Average broiler prices are now in the region of 290 eurocents a kg, the lowest level for six months, but still 6.3% above last year’s levels.
Broiler prices in the US have started to turn a corner after falling considerably during the Autumn.
US prices are now the equivalent to 207.2 eurocents a kg, while broiler prices in Brazil are averaging roughly 130 eurocents a kg.
EU placings of broiler chicks increased during September and sit above the same month last year.
