The British Free Range Egg Producers Association (BFREPA) has called for a housing order following the latest outbreaks of cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza.
Gary Ford, a spokesperson for the association, described the situation as “distressing for the families involved and concerning news for the UK poultry sector,” particularly for businesses operating in regions directly affected by the outbreak.
In response to the escalating threat, BFREPA urged the government to implement an housing order across the western region of Great Britain. The association argued that, while housing measures alone cannot completely eliminate the risk of infection, they represent a critical step in reducing exposure and slowing the spread of the highly contagious disease.
BFREPA also appealed to all poultry producers to maintain strict biosecurity standards and to report any suspicions of disease immediately.
