No viable plan to keep 2 Sisters’ Llangefni plant open, Welsh government says

The consultation into the future of the 2 Sisters poultry processing plant at Llangefni has found no viable plans to keep it open, according to the Welsh Government.

The company announced its intention to close the site at the end of January and entered a consultation period with its 700 staff.

A taskforce set up in the wake of the company’s announcement has been meeting weekly. But now, in a statement from Vaughan Gething, minister for the economy in Wales, the Welsh government said the site was likely to close. “It was disappointing to hear from the company that the first stage consultation had not brought forward any viable plans for 2 Sisters to maintain their site in Llangefni, and the company is now moving ahead with plans to cease production.”

Gething added the task force, comprising government, unions, the company and other interested parties, was continuing to meet weekly. “Their primary focus remains identifying and co-ordinating as much assistance as possible to support the workers impacted as a result of the closure, both in terms of securing future employment and their wellbeing.”
