Soanes Poultry launches lower stocking density range of chicken

Soanes Poultry has launched a new range of chicken reared with 20% lower stocking density than standard, which will be sold direct to customers via a new website, soanespoultry.co.uk

The Yorkshire firm said it was responding to customer demand for high quality chicken that has more room to roam than standard chicken.

“We have been supplying higher welfare chicken to trade customers in London and wanted a way to satisfy consumer demand for this chicken nationwide,” said director of sales and marketing, Ben Lee.

Claire Wright, managing director of Clive Soanes Broilers, which rears the chickens, said: “We use the AssureWel welfare outcome assessment protocol for chicken to help us to assess the welfare of our flocks.

“As part of these standardised assessments, we look at a number of key health and welfare outcomes for chickens, such as the birds’ gait score, their interaction with enrichment items, and other active behaviours such as running, sparring and wing flapping.”

The range includes whole chicken, portions, diced chicken and a Taste of Yorkshire mixed box.

Soanes Poultry is a family owned business that has been rearing and preparing chicken since 1947. It sells chicken to butchers and independent retailers in Yorkshire and to wholesalers nationwide.
