The annual Cobb Europe charity clay shoot raised over £13,000 for the Stroke Association. The event took place at the High Lodge Clay Shooting Ground in Darsham, Suffolk, bringing together more than 140 poultry industry professionals from the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands for a day of friendly competition.

Participants competed as teams and individuals with proceeds benefiting the Stroke Association as the chosen charity is close to many team members’ hearts.

Over the last three years, more than £40,000 has been raised in aid of the Stroke Association through the annual event. Tam Amara, fundraiser at the Stroke Association, was accompanied by a stroke survivor joining attendees in the afternoon to thank everyone for their continued support.  “We are so thankful to everyone for their wonderful efforts in raising vital funds which will enable us to reach out to even more stroke survivors.”

The Steve Graham Top Shot Award was created in 2019, in memory of a Cobb Europe team member who passed away in 2018, he was a regular attendee at the charity shoot so this is a fitting tribute for all who knew him.

“It’s wonderful to be able to donate such a large sum to the Stroke Association and remember Steve,” said Tom Procter, account manager – UK, Ireland and Scandinavia at Cobb Europe who took over the reins from John Vincent this year. “The size of the event has grown significantly since its start in 2010. The attendance from across the industry demonstrates a willingness to support good causes.”

James Dye, director at Newquip, presented awards to the day’s winners and runner ups. Billy Crane from the C E Davidson team won the top shot honour after a tiebreak ensued with Ricky Reno from Powell Buildings, both ending with excellent scores of 76 out of 82. James Padley was close on Crane’s heels, scoring 73. Padley won the team shield with 187 out of 200 in the two 100-bird team flushes, pipping defending champions Traditional Norfolk Poultry by one point.

Newquip was principle sponsor again this year. James Dye of Newquip said: “It is a privilege for us to sponsor the annual Cobb charity shoot. This fantastic event attracts many supporters from within our industry – it’s great to come together to raise money for charity whilst enjoying a fun day’s activities. We are already looking forward to the next one!”
