Bernard Matthews wins planning permission for new chicken plant

Bernard Matthews has been given the go-ahead to build a chicken processing factory in Suffolk, extending its current factory in Holton on to adjacent land.

The poultry giant applied to build the new factory last autumn following the announcement it had won a major new contact to supply cooked chicken.

Opposition was raised by Holton Parish Council and some local residents who were concerned at a potential increase in traffic across the area. However, the planning committee at East Suffolk Council voted to approve the plans unanimously.

Bernard Matthews is the leading UK turkey producer with annual sales of around £200 million and over 1,500 staff.

Amber REI Holdings acquired Bernard Matthews in 2017. Amber REI Holdings is owned by Ranjit Boparan, chairman and owner of 2 Sisters Food Group.
