The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has backed its commitment to animal welfare and sustainability by updating its food procurement policy to reflect its current priorities in relation to both areas.
The new policy is designed to ensure the veterinary profession’s welfare and sustainability priorities carry over into the sector’s personal procurement of meat, fish, dairy products and eggs.
“While our new policy might seem a small step towards assuring animal welfare within BVA’s suppliers and service delivery, it is an important step in turning words in to action,” said association president, Gudrun Ravetz (pictured above).
“It also signals the importance the veterinary profession places on ensuring animal welfare is prioritised alongside other essential sustainability objectives such as environmental protection, food security and tackling AMR.”
One simple impact of the new food policy is that its rules will be applied to all meetings and room hire at BVA’s Mansfield Street office as well as to external suppliers at BVA events, such as the association’s gala dinner and lobbying dinners in London and in the devolved regions.
