The UK’s chief veterinary officer has confirmed the detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 near Linton-on-Ouse, affecting areas around Wetherby and Easingwold in North Yorkshire. In response, Defra has implemented Protection and Surveillance Zones.
Within the 3km Protection Zone, poultry keepers face biosecurity obligations including the mandatory housing or isolation of birds, detailed record-keeping of visitors, bird movements, and egg transactions. Movement of poultry, eggs, and bird by-products is heavily restricted and requires specific veterinary licences.
