Waitrose has recalled one of its ready-to-eat products after fears of Salmonella contamination were raised by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
The recall affects the Waitrose & Partners Egg and Spinach Protein Pot (90g), specifically those marked with use-by dates of 31 July 2025 and 1 August 2025. The FSA issued the warning on Monday evening, advising customers not to consume the product.
Salmonella is a foodborne bacteria that can cause fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach cramps. Though symptoms typically pass within a few days, it can be more dangerous for vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
According to the FSA, anyone who has consumed the product and experiences symptoms should avoid contact with others and stay home from work, school, or childcare settings for at least 48 hours after symptoms resolve.
Customers who purchased the affected product are urged to return it to any Waitrose store for a full refund. Proof of purchase is not required.
Waitrose has confirmed that point-of-sale notices have been placed in all affected stores, and the product has been removed from shelves as a precaution.
