EU broiler prices fluctuated during April, first lifting towards 300 eurocents a kg earlier in the month before then settling back to 293.75 eurocents a kg.
Broiler prices have continued to track above last year’s levels, although the margin is narrowing with prices currently just 2.3% higher year on year.
The market has been more varied for global broiler prices, with broilers in the US easing back to the equivalent to 225 eurocents a kg for the week ending 22 April.
Meanwhile in Brazil, prices have continued to climb and averaged 125 eurocents a kg towards the end of April, though remain at a significant discount to the EU market.
Total EU broiler meat production reached 14.3m tonnes in 2025, up by 2.1% year on year.
Poland was the largest producer in the EU, accounting for 21% of total production, followed by Spain at 13% and France at 12%.
The six largest producing countries accounted for almost three quarters of all production.
EU poultry meat exports in 2025 totalled 2.1m tonnes, down by 1.5% on the year, however the total value of exports increased.
EU poultry meat imports were both in terms of value and volume in 2025.
Eggs
EU egg prices slipped back during April after a strong period of growth during the first three months of the year.
The average price of class A eggs in packing stations fell to 296 eurocents a kg in late April.
Despite the recent fall, prices are still up by almost 6% on year earlier levels.
Egg prices in the US have fallen further and are currently trading at just 74 eurocents a kg, a significant fall from year earlier levels.
Laying hen placings in the EU lifted during February to the highest monthly levels for several years, well in excess of 15m birds.
French, Germany, and Spain are still the major players in EU egg production, each accounting for roughly 15% of total EU production respectively.
