H5N5 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been confirmed in a small backyard flock of chickens in Ness, Isle of Lewis.
A 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone were declared around the premises at 20:25 on 2 October.
The case is the first confirmed H5N5 HPAI outbreak in the UK since 1 October, with no cases recorded in England, Wales or Northern Ireland during this period.
The British Egg Industry Council said the disease control zones would remain in place until control and surveillance activities had been completed and there were no suspect cases under investigation.
The risk of H5 HPAI in wild birds in Great Britain remains assessed as medium, while the risk to poultry is assessed as low where good biosecurity is consistently applied.
Poultry keepers have been urged to maintain high standards of biosecurity, including stringent separation between different animal types on mixed farms.
The BEIC also reminded producers that changes in feed and water consumption can indicate a potential bird health issue and said accurate recording of consumption was important to identify changes.
