NFU seeks candidates for new National Poultry Board

The NFU is calling on poultry producers across England and Wales to put themselves forward for election to the NFU National Poultry Board for the 2026–2028 term, with nominations now open and a deadline of Sunday 1 March 2026.

The board plays a central role in shaping NFU policy and representing the interests of both the poultry meat and egg sectors, tackling issues ranging from avian influenza and animal health to nutrient neutrality, regulation and market challenges.

NFU Poultry Board members serve a two-year term from March 2026 to March 2028, meeting six times a year, primarily in person. Board members receive an annual honorarium, paid monthly, to help offset time spent away from farm businesses.

The NFU is seeking 12 enthusiastic and committed poultry producers who are passionate about helping to shape the future direction of the industry and ensuring policies remain practical, progressive and profitable for farmers.

Successful candidates will help to set board priorities, lead on specific policy areas and act as a vital link between regional NFU members and national policy discussions.

Applicants are expected to communicate effectively with poultry farmers in their region, sharing information between local meetings and the national board to ensure views from across the sector are heard and represented.

The National Poultry Board addresses a broad range of policy areas affecting the sector, including disease control, environmental regulation, planning, labour availability, sustainability and animal welfare.

With the industry facing ongoing challenges, the NFU says there has never been a more important time for producers to become involved and help guide the future of UK poultry farming.

NFU members wishing to stand for election must gain the support of eight fellow NFU members and submit a completed nomination form, including a 250-word statement outlining why they wish to apply.

Completed forms should be returned to NFU Chief Poultry Adviser Aimee Mahony by 1 March 2026 via email at aimee.mahony@nfu.org.uk.

Short interviews may be held as part of a competitive selection process, which will consider applicants’ skills, experience, and the need for balanced regional and sector representation.

The new board will meet for the first time on Wednesday 25 March 2026, when the Chair and Vice-Chair will be elected.

The NFU is encouraging applications from people of all backgrounds and is particularly keen to hear from those who feel their communities have been underrepresented in agriculture.

Further information and nomination forms are available via the NFU website, or through regional NFU offices.
