EU egg prices have rebounded during the autumn and have lifted by 6.7% in the last month alone, to average 283.48 eurocents a kg for the week ending 29 October.
Prices are currently running more than 25% above the same month last year.
Total EU egg production in 2024 was 6.66 million tonnes, down from 6.78 million tonnes in 2023.
France was the largest egg producer in the EU last year, accounting for more than 1 million tonnes and 15% of total production.
Meanwhile, Germany accounted for 970,000 tonnes, Spain accounted for 962,000 tonnes, and Italy 804,000 tonnes
EU egg exports totalled 219,000 tonnes during the first seven months of 2025, up marginally on the previous year.
The UK continues to be the EU’s largest export destination for eggs, with 90,000 tonnes being exported during the first seven months of 2025.
This was up by almost 5% year on year.
Imports into the EU increased more dramatically and lifted from 68,000 tonnes to 100,000 tonnes during the seven month window.
Ukraine was the largest exporter of eggs to the EU during this period with 71,000 tonnes being sent.
Broilers
EU broiler prices have continued to hold at about 300 eurocents a kg throughout September and October.
Prices are down by just 0.4% on month earlier levels in late October and remain 7.4% higher than this time last year.
Broiler prices in the US have slipped back considerably and after running roughly in line with EU prices at the start of the year, they have now fallen to the equivalent of 204 eurocents a kg.
in Brazil, broiler prices have picked up in recent months but still remain at a considerable discount to both prices in the US and EU, at the equivalent to roughly 132 eurocents a kg.
Broilers account for 83.8% of EU poultrymeat production, with turkey accounting for 11.9%, duck 3% and other 1.2%.
