EU broiler prices eased back during November and December after having steadily increased for much of the past year.
Broilers averaged 282 eurocents a kg in mid-December, down by 2.3% on month earlier levels, and further below the 300 eurocents a kg mark where prices had held for much of September and October.
Despite this recent fall, the EU broiler price is still 3.4% higher than during the same period in 2024 and remains high by historic standards.
Meanwhile, broiler prices in the US appear to have turned a corner.
US broilers had been trading at the equivalent to 200 eurocents a kg, a significant discount to prices in the EU, but the gap is closing and prices have lifted to near 217 eurocents a kg.
Broiler prices in Brazil have held just below 130 eurocents a kg.
EU broiler meat production lifted marginally during November above month earlier levels but remained at relatively low volumes compared with previous years.
Eggs
EU egg prices lifted further towards the end of 2025, reaching a new high of 296.4 eurocents a kg.
This puts prices up by 21% on year earlier levels and 2.5% up on the previous month.
Prices in the US have been much more volatile and after a surge in early 2025 ended the year at about 241 eurocents a kg.
Placings of laying hens in the EU remained high throughout the third quarter of 2025, indicating future supplies are likely to remain strong,
French, Germany, and Spain continued to be the major players in EU egg production, each accounting for roughly 15% of total EU production respectively.
