Plans have been submitted for a new £200 million poultry processing facility near Grimsby, with the proposed plant capable of processing up to 1.75 million birds a week.
Cranswick Country Foods PLC is seeking permission to develop the facility on land off Pegasus Way, west of Europarc at Healing. The planning application was formally published by North East Lincolnshire Council on 3 September.
The development would include a poultry processing building, offices and staff facilities, effluent balancing, water storage and wastewater treatment, loading bays, HGV circulation routes, waste facilities, an electrical substation and associated infrastructure.
According to information submitted with the application, the facility could employ around 1,400 people once operational and is expected to take approximately two years to construct, supporting an estimated 800 construction jobs.
A transport assessment submitted as part of the application estimates the development would generate 1,428 two-way vehicle movements a day, including 202 HGV movements.
The proposed plant would operate across day and night shifts, with activities including the receipt of live poultry, processing, chilling, packing and dispatch, alongside refrigeration, waste handling and effluent management.
The application follows Cranswick’s announcement earlier this year that it was progressing plans for a second fresh poultry facility. In its latest results, the company said it was assessing several potential sites for additional fresh poultry capacity.
North East Lincolnshire Council is now consulting on the application. Comments must be submitted by 27 September 2026.
