Red Tractor has launched a new farmer-led film celebrating the skills and commitment behind British food production.
Proud to Farm, released on 6 October, features farmers and growers working to Red Tractor standards and highlights the range of roles they fulfil, from food producer and business owner to mechanic, livestock expert and countryside custodian.
The film recognises more than 40,000 farmers and growers assured by Red Tractor and comes after months of unusually hot and dry weather which has placed pressure on food production.
Red Tractor chief executive Paul McLaughlin said the organisation wanted to make the skill and care involved in producing British food more visible to consumers.
“British farmers and growers are producing food against an incredibly challenging backdrop, and we believe their contribution deserves to be recognised and championed,” he said.
The film’s central message is that there is no such thing as “just a farmer”, with Red Tractor highlighting the responsibility involved in producing food while maintaining high standards.
Red Tractor said its assurance scheme covers around 75% of UK agricultural production, with its logo appearing on more than £18bn of British food and drink.
NFU deputy president Paul Tompkins said farmers and growers worked hard to produce high-quality food while running businesses, caring for livestock and managing the countryside.
“We are extremely proud of the skill, commitment and dedication shown by everyone working across our sector,” he said.
