The UK has recorded its first imports of shell eggs from Turkey, according to HMRC trade data analysed by the British Free Range Egg Producers Association (BFREPA).
The data shows that 40,100kg of fresh eggs in shell were imported from Turkey in June 2026, with a declared value of £50,970. The eggs were recorded under commodity code 040721, which covers fresh table eggs in shell from all production systems and excludes hatching eggs.
The June shipment was equivalent to approximately 641,600 eggs using a standard 62.5g average egg weight. Importers also declared 695,000 eggs, giving an average weight of 57.7g per egg.
The declared import value was equivalent to £1.27/kg, or approximately 95p per dozen based on a 62.5g egg. These are HMRC statistical values recorded at the border and do not represent the final price paid by wholesalers, retailers or consumers.
The Turkish shipment was significantly smaller than imports from other major suppliers during June. Ukraine exported 1.92 million kg of shell eggs to the UK during the month, while Poland supplied 280,000kg, Spain 215,000kg, Belgium 156,000kg and the Netherlands 110,000kg.
BFREPA said the June figure was the first recorded import of shell eggs from Turkey, with no imports recorded between January and May.
The trade data does not identify the production system used for the Turkish eggs.
