Aldi’s new-year focus on price cutting has meant it has invested £122 million in lowering the price of hundreds of everyday products so far in 2026, the retailer has reported.
The discounter said it has reduced prices on almost 500 items since the start of 2026, spanning fresh and frozen food, cupboard staples, household essentials and personal care products.
Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: “We know that many households are continuing to feel the pressure of rising costs, which is why we’ve already invested £122m in lowering prices this year and will continue to do everything we can to keep prices down for our customers.
“With nearly 500 products reduced so far in 2026, we’re helping shoppers make their money go further, without compromising on quality.”
Aldi is not the only supermarket to have taken a chainsaw to prices, with Morrisons last week announcing a raft of price reductions on popular products that regularly feature in the weekly basket.
Alex Paver, pricing and customer director at Morrisons, said: “We know consumer confidence remains low, and for many of our customers, managing household budgets is a real concern. That’s why we’ve focused on lowering the price on everyday essentials and family favourites that we know our customers buy week in, week out.
“By cutting prices across thousands of key products, we’re helping customers keep the cost of the weekly shop down. This reflects our continued commitment to helping customers spend less, while enjoying the quality Morrisons is known for.”
In January, Morrisons also cut the prices on 2,500 products, with a focus on fresh produce, cupboard staples and branded items to help customers manage post-Christmas budgets.
