The Poultry Industry Programme (PIP) is calling anyone planning their next career move to consider exciting opportunities in the poultry sector and to join a special hosted seminar at the 2018 Pig & Poultry Fair.
Taking place on Wednesday 16 May, between 11am and 2pm, the Poultry Next Generation seminar is aimed at talented young people who are interested to hear what the poultry industry has to offer them. “We want to inspire young people to consider a career in poultry; educate them about the wide array of opportunities available and facilitate follow up discussions,” said Fede Monte, an Agricultural Consultant for ADAS who is one of the PIP participants for 2018.  “The industry is really calling out for talented individuals and we want to help open the doors for them.”
The seminar will kick off at 11am with an introduction to the poultry sector, looking at the challenges and opportunities the industry is facing, and why we need new talent in a wide range of roles. David Speller, a successful broiler farmer, will give an insight into how his business has embraced cutting edge technology to improve performance, and the hugely varied roles within his company.
The seminar will be followed by a light lunch on the NFU stand and, after which interactive workshops will give attendees the chance to speak directly to those already working in a wide range of positions in the industry. The roles covered will include feed, genetics, breeding, farm management, veterinary, compliance, transport, engineering and more. There will be individuals at different stages of their careers, with very varied routes into the industry.
NFU poultry board chairman Thomas Wornham said: “The poultry sector is an incredibly rewarding, innovative sector that can offer the next generation a fantastic career. That is why the NFU plays a leading role in helping to develop their opportunities through the Poultry Industry Programme. I’m confident that this seminar will showcase what fantastic opportunities the poultry industry has to offer to new entrants.”
Danny Johnson from PIP sponsors ABN said: “Joining this seminar at the 2018 Fair is a unique opportunity to speak to those in the industry and explore the opportunities and possibilities this broad and exciting sector offers. “Poultry is a fast changing and growing sector which really embraces new technology – some of the things that really attracted me personally.”
Anyone is welcome to come along and join in. Registration is free, simply sign up for your place via the dedicated PIP page on the Fair website www.pigandpoultry.org.uk/pip.
