The chief executives of Asda and Sainsbury’s are to be publicly questioned by politicians on 20 June.

Roger Burnley, Asda’s chief executive, Mike Coupe, Sainsbury’s chief executive, Christopher Brown, Asda’s sustainable business director, and Judith Batchelar, director of Sainsbury’s brand, have been summands to appear in front of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs select committee, chaired by Neil Parish MP.

The oral evidence session will examine the proposed merger of Asda and Sainsbury’s and will begin at 9.30am.

The two retailers announced their intention to merge at the beginning of May. The Competition and Markets Authority is currently investigating the potential impact of the proposed merger.
