Herefordshire based Powell & Co Construction, specialists in the design and build of poultry housing and agricultural buildings, has announced the appointment of a new health & safety manager, Ted Hodnett.

Hodnett joins the business at an exciting yet interesting time with COVID-19 presenting a number of challenges to businesses, in particular the construction sector.  The immediate priority will be to ensure measures are in place to protect employees and clients as the pandemic situation evolves.

With over 15 years of Health & Safety experience including environment awareness, and a certified BSI Lead Auditor supporting Quality Management process, Hodnett brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the business. His role will be based at the head office and out on sites supporting the teams during each stage of construction. A number of areas will be covered by his role including the review of working practices to prevent incidents and accidents, improving equipment and environmental inspections, introducing audit and focussing on driving a strong health & safety culture.

Hodnett previously worked for Bull Products as Head of Operations where he worked with leading well known construction contractors, and prior to that worked as Group Compliance Manager for Paragon Laundry Group.

“I have known the Powell family for many years and to now be working for a business that I have admired for offering great products and service, supported by a fantastic team is a real honour,” said Hodnett. “The business operates in a sector that has comprehensive legislation and regulations to adhere to, therefore I look forward to the setting milestones to drive key health & safety performance measures across all areas of the business.”

Debbie Coles, managing director at Powell & Co said: “As the business grows we recognise the need to have a full time health & safety manager and are delighted to have secured the appointment of Ted. His knowledge and experience of the construction sector is excellent and will help drive the right culture across the business, in particular on sites where teams work in varying conditions. He will also be able to support our clients with advice from planning to sign off so that all parties operate safely at each construction stage.”
